Whether you are a makeup maven or not, most of us use skin care products in our daily lives. After all, how else can you keep your skin healthy and glowing? Knowing how to find the best skincare routine for your needs will make a big difference in how you look and feel.

Skincare routines are all about personal preference. No two people’s skin is the same; what works for one person may not work for another. It’s best to develop a skincare routine and then stick with it for at least two weeks before making any changes.

Skincare is about routine, and there’s no time like the present to start a good one. “There’s no such thing as having too many products,” says celebrity facialist Joanna Vargas. “It’s important to tailor your routine to your skin type, age, and lifestyle. Don’t be afraid of trying new things.”

The Order of Your Skincare Routine Matters

It’s probably obvious to you that having a good skincare routine is essential, but have you ever stopped to think about the order of your skincare products? The order in which you apply your products can make all the difference in the effectiveness of your skincare routine. Here are five of the essential tips to help you get started:

1. Start with a cleanser

2. Exfoliate

3. Moisturize

4. Treat your skin

5. Sunscreen.

Day Time Skin Care Routine

Now that we’ve established what types of skin you have, it’s time to help you put together a skincare routine! The steps for your daytime skincare routine will be much the same as your nighttime one: cleanse, exfoliate, moisturize, and protect.

Let me quickly sum up what we’ll be doing:

Cleanse: We’ll start with a gentle facial cleanser or foaming face wash.

Exfoliate: Your face will need some extra help during the day, especially if you’re planning on putting on makeup. After cleansing, we’ll use a lightweight exfoliate to slough off any dead skin cells.

Moisturize: Next, we’ll add moisture back into our newly clean faces with a moisturizer! We’ll focus on hydrating our dry areas (around the eyes) and protecting our oily areas (forehead).

Protect: Finally, we’ll seal everything in with SPF if you don’t already have an SPF in your moisturizer and foundation.

Night Skin Care Routine

Even in your teens, it’s never too early to start taking care of your skin. You should always wear sunscreen, but that doesn’t mean you can’t also have fun with your skincare routine.

If you’re starting with an at-home skincare routine, the best way to go about it is in order. Today we’ll discuss what you need to do before hitting the sack to ensure your skin stays looking its best.

Step 1: Cleanse Skin of All Impurities

When you’re ready for bed, make sure to cleanse any makeup or dirt from your face. Use a face wash made specifically for sensitive skin and washes away any impurities after a long day. It will help prevent blemishes from forming and keep your skin clear.

Step 2: Exfoliate Skin

A scrub or exfoliating cleanser will help remove dead skin cells, keep pores clear, and prevent breakouts. Make sure that you use one made especially for sensitive skin since those are usually less harsh than those meant for deep cleaning.

Step 3: Clean Hair and Scalp

Your hair can collect oil throughout the day and make it look greasy by bedtime. Wash it with a gentle shampoo.
